Blues Brothers Drinkalong

This has been one of my favourite movies since I was teeny tiny.  I’ve seen it more times than I can count, and yet, the only other time we’ve done it as a drinkalong (for my birthday, no less) I missed most of it cos I got FaceTimed by a friend I hadn’t talked to in forever and spent the whole movie alternating between talking to him and singing along with the movie.

Anyway, that means I’m looking forward to it.

Be safe, don’t drink yourself sick.

When Harry Met Sally Drinkalong

I actually had plans to write something about this movie today.  I wrote the rules up last night (whaaaat, I was prepared?!) and was all set.  But then I got up today and the internet was down, and I had pretty much decided I was just going to spend the day binge re-watching Dragons with the boys so we can get started on the new season.  Then the internet came back and I have no interest in doing anything else.  So.  Here you go.

Postcards from the Edge Drinkalong

When I was in junior high, I went through a total Meryl Streep phase.  The movies I watched endlessly were this, She-Devil and Death Becomes Her.  I have no idea what sparked the interest, but I do remember seeing Carrie Fisher’s name in the credits and getting a little angry when I read the book.  Yes, even 13y/o me was a total pedant.

It feels gross to write a drinking game for this movie, so I’m not going to do it.  But I just watched the first half of it to find the scene pictured above so I could make this gif (seriously, internet, why are you so terrible sometimes, the only gif I could find of this scene was teeny and not even the part I wanted) and it’s just as funny as I remember it being.  It also made me sorta sad, but that’s to be expected.

I’ll see you guys tonight. ❤

Drop Dead Fred Drinkalong

Ughhhhh, I’ve been sitting here for the last hour trying to come up with rules and the only thing I could actually come up with was “drink when you realize that this movie is actually super sad.” But, like, that is either not enough or TOO MUCH so I’m just doing nothing this week.

Except…we lost Carrie Fisher at the end of December.  We’ve talked about doing Drop Dead Fred for YEARS.  It wasn’t until I brought up doing a Carrie Fisher month that we finally put it on the schedule.  There’s no reason we never got around to it, other than that I kept forgetting every time I wrote the damn thing.

Idk.  I can’t even brain enough today to talk about how sad her death has made me.  You all already know what just her existence meant to us.  I’m happy I get to watch some of her non-SW stuff with you over the next month.  I’ll try to do better with rules in the future, but can’t promise anything.  ❤

Flirting with Disaster Drinkalong

You know how there are movies or songs or bands or whatever that are forever on the tip of your tongue?  For some reason, every time I want to talk about the band Widespread Panic, the first thing that comes to mind is Stabbing Westward which I KNOW is wrong, but then all I can think of is how Stabbing Westward is totally not even close to the name of the band, but Widespread Panic just won’t come to me.

For years, this movie was like that for me.  I would try to talk about this hilarious movie that Ben Stiller was in with Patricia Arquette and everyone would be all “I think you mean Cameron Diaz” and I would tell them to fuck off cos I knew it wasn’t There’s Something About Mary.

“No, it’s that movie that J and I ended up seeing that one night when we were trying to win tickets to see the Refreshments and we had never even heard of it but there was nothing else playing that sounded remotely interesting, and then when we left the theatre, she accidentally pulled out the wrong way on a one way street and we were so lucky that it was late and no one else was driving and we had to pull over because we were laughing so hard?”

Which…does nothing to help anyone because no one else was there with us that night.

Anyway, this was that movie.  I know most of you haven’t seen it, but it’s pretty great with a stellar cast and I hope you enjoy it.
