Okay, so, confession:
I have only seen This is Spinal Tap in its entirety once. And I was in my 20s. I’d seen bits and pieces of it (enough to get the constant references and jokes) because I have always had a problem with falling asleep during movies. Always. One of my regular crew in high school was OBSESSED with this movie and tried to make me watch it at least 20 times, but I always fell asleep and woke up, then went back to sleep.
It wasn’t until my husband started singing “Big Bottom” at me one day and I said “stop making up songs about my butt” and I thought he was going to divorce me that I sat through it (and loved it, obviously, DON’T HATE ME, OKAY?).
Sidenote: Do not search for Big Bottom without the Spinal Tap qualifier. Unless you’re into that, then go ahead.
Anyway, this was supposed to be the last of our music themed drinkalongs, but then Sarah chose Jesus Christ Superstar as her birthday drinkalong, so I guess the music will continue for another week.
See you tonight!
I don’t even have a whole lot to say about this one, cos it’s been at least ten years since I last watched it. This week is for Dani, who begged me to make this a drinkalong, like, two years ago. I barely remember much of it (thanks, stm!), so idek if these rules will get us drunk or get us hospitalized.
Oh, and we’re doing the THEATRICAL version, not the EE. I don’t know that I’ve ever seen the Extended Edition, but I DO know that there’s no fucking way I can sit through almost three hours of one movie. It’s available to rent on Amazon, I totally checked.
See you tonight!
This is one of my all-time favourite music movies and I was so shocked to learn how many of you have never seen it. This was one I used to put on on a weekend and dance around to it while cleaning the house…but I also had the soundtracks for that purpose and I can’t even begin to tell you how many times I’ve listened to those.
Anyway, no rules tonight. I did something to my back and can’t come up with anything. Unless you want to drink to the word “fuck,” which is uttered more than once every two minutes. If you do that, though, I accept no responsibility for your loss of life or whatever else may happen to you.
See you tonight!
I’ve realized recently that Empire Records is one of those movies where you kind of had to be there. Not that it’s not accessible for everyone, but that if you weren’t a teen in the 90s, you’ve likely never seen it. Or, more specifically, if you weren’t in high school or junior high in the MID-90s. This makes me sad, cos it’s just so fantastic.
We don’t usually do mid-week drinkalongs, but we’re making an exception this time cos it’s
WE ARE DOING THINGS A LITTLE DIFFERENTLY THIS TIME. Remember when we did #RyeWit and I found the Slate Wes Anderson Bingo cards? I decided to find something to allow me to create Empire Records Bingo and it’s kind of amazing. The cards don’t have to be printed out, you can just open them up in your browser (even mobile!) and click on a square to mark it! Yay! If this works well, maybe we’ll use it again for future drinkalongs? Idk, you’ll have to let me know.
If you still have no idea, let Susie explain all about Rex Manning Day.
See you guys tonight!
I procrastinated for too long getting this post ready so…sorry?
Same everything as it is every week:
(Gonna be watching Empire Records on Rex Manning Day. Idk if anyone else is interested in a Wednesday drinkalong? Let me know so I know if I have to plan.)
