Harold and Maude Drinkalong

Okay, so…real talk, guys.

I saw this movie for the first time when I was twelve years old.  My mom and step-dad decided we’d spend my Christmas break plus a few days driving from our home in Montana down to San Diego to visit family and friends and we spent a few days with some biker friends of theirs.  By the time we got to San Diego, I’d already read all of the books I had brought with me and was on the verge of life-annihilating boredom.  Luckily, the friends had a son that was only a few years older than me and he took pity on me, gave me some books and we watched a lot of movies together.

The above gif was his reaction when he asked me if I’d seen this movie and my answer was no.

So he grabbed their VHS copy of it, put it in and I spent the next 90+ minutes alternating between laughing and crying.  Sometimes both at once.  When it was over, I asked if we could watch it again.

So we did.

And when we left, he ran out to the car and pressed into my hands a copy he’d made of the movie so I could take it with me.

I watched that VHS dub until it couldn’t be watched any more.  At least twice a year, usually more often than that.

To this day, it’s a movie I like to put in when I’m in a funk because it giaves me ALL THE FEELS when my brain wants to tell me I can’t feel anything but sad.

That’s why we’re watching it today.

Without a doubt, this is my All Time Favourite Movie.  No other movie will ever come close.

Because of that, I’ve decided to forego any sort of rules.  I know a lot of you have never seen it before, and I don’t want you to be waiting for some random moment to happen so you can drink, I want you to just sit back and revel in the glory that is this film.

If for some reason you hate it, please don’t tell me.  I’m too emotionally fragile right now.

I hope you love it like I do.  And if you don’t…just keep that to yourself.

Reality Bites Drinkalong

Now this line just makes me think of Thursday Next.

Now this line just makes me think of Thursday Next.

If I don’t get a nap today, I’mma be USELESS tonight.  Only one night this week did I manage more than 3 hours of sleep at a stretch, so this should be all kinds of fun, yeah?

This is one of those movies that I watched over and over when it came out, and not just cos Ethan Hawke was a smokebomb in the mid-90s.  If you put this soundtrack and the soundtrack to Singles together on one playlist, you’d have a good portion of the shit I liked to listen to then…and now I’m wishing someone would mashup Lisa Loeb and Alice in Chains.  Hmmmm.

Anyway, I’ve been sitting here, blearily trying to create a shitty Rules graphic in Paint for the last 20 minutes and have been forced to the conclusion that it’s just not going to happen.  Let’s just drink for the Gas Card and flannel, okay?  Okay.

Next week we watch my ALL TIME FAVOURITE MOVIE, so I hope you’re looking forward to that!  And then starting in September, Heather and I thought it would be a fabulous idea to watch a bunch of our favourite NON-SAD Robin Williams movies, so there’s also that to look forward to.  I was thinking after that we could watch Hackers and maybe Wayne’s World?  Idk, I am undecided.  Let me know what you’re into.

See you all tonight!  Til then I’ll be blasting The Knack and Squeeze.  ❤

Bill and Ted’s Bogus Drinkalong

Wow.  Saturday again.  I wasn’t entirely sure until yesterday whether this drinkalong would happen or not, but it is, and I’m glad.

I’m currently too tired to even try to be clever (so let’s hope this nap thing happens or I’ll be worthless tonight), so here’s all the pertinent stuff.

That’s it.  See you all tonight at 9:45c/10:45e!

Bill and Ted’s Excellent Adventure Drinkalong

I wasn’t even sure until yesterday afternoon whether I was willing to host the drinkalong tonight.  The last few weeks have sucked right out loud (add to the general stressy bullshit of every day life the fact that I dislocated a damn rib WHILE COUGHING this week) and I’ve been feeling the most anti-social.  But I realized yesterday that I really needed to talk to some people that weren’t my husband or my dad, even if it’s only for a few hours before I retreat back into my social media-less shell.

I’m not going to try to come up with rules or anything, cos right now I kind of don’t give a fuck.  I just want to watch a funny movie that I love and get trashed while not thinking about real life for a while.

Same time as always, yeah?  See you tonight.  Or not.  I’m not the boss of you.

Saved! Drinkalong

Long week, guys.  Looooooong. Week.

As a result of said long week, and a general lack of sleep, I didn’t have a chance to come up with any drinking game rules for tonight’s movie, so you’re on your own.  But it’s on Netflix, so at least you don’t have to rent it or find the dvd or anything, right?

See you tonight at 9:45c/10:45e!
